Lets pretend I’m attractive and then
You won’t mind, you can twist for a while
It’s the night, I can be who you like
And I’ll quietly leave before it gets light

So twist and whisper the wrong name
I don’t care nor do my ears
Twist yourself around me
I need company i need human heat
I need human heat

the cribs, manchester academy 12/05/12

THIS WAS SUCH A BRILLIANT SHOW. i’d regretted not getting tickets for manchester before it sold out ever since i saw them in leeds in march, and then last week i got hold of tickets and managed to organize everything very quickly and oh, it was so so worth it, fuck. we were on the barrier, right in front of gary, who was wearing a queen tshirt and is still the most beautiful, and we made eye contact so yeah, BASICALLY ALREADY MARRIED. and they played loads of the new album, which was lovely, although ryan singing back to the bolthole and then don’t believe in me like he was breaking made me cry, how rough and painful and then fragile and defeated his voice was, oh god. it hurt watching him, sometimes. he was wearing a marilyn manson shirt that said i am the god of fuck on the back, and had chosen to accessorize this with jeans that were mostly made out of holes layered over checked leggings and it was all very rock ‘n’ roll. and i always suddenly fancy ross loads when he stands up to drum, mmm. also swishy hips. the crowd singing every word to it was only love was really nice - and ryan remembered the second half this time - and they played baby don’t sweat, which was ace because i haven’t heard it live before, and be safe is still amazing and cathartic and magical live, and then johnny marr turned up and ryan introduced him as “the only member of the cribs whose last name isn’t jarman” and he hugged everyone a lot and ryan was just beaming, bless him. johnny the supportive uncle :’) he seemed to think he was the lead singer and did a lot of sauntering about and then because he was there they played we share the same skies, which i’d given up on ever hearing live, and that was a bit special and required hand-clutching because THE FEELS, THE FEELS. that song is easily one of my very favourites by them, and so getting to scream your hopes died under northern skies was so amazing. and then, as if they hadn’t done quite enough to cement this as one of my favourite shows ever, the fuckers finished with arena rock encore. by that point gary’s bass wasn’t really working properly, and he’d been the calm, steady counterpoint to ryan’s manic energy all the way through the show but for this last song they were both as intense as each other and it was all a bit fucking desperate and fierce and brave, ross standing up at his drums and gary having to bend down to reach his almost horizontal mike and he and ryan screaming sorry that it’s taken years, we were victims of our own ideals, but i’d rather be tied to myself than to anyone else over and over and over again, each repetition more ragged and heartfelt and defiant and it was properly us-against-the-world and just, oh. i love the cribs a lot.
